How to add new tags to the list of terms

You can add and remove terms from any of your taxonomies. These are the terms you use to tag your pages and posts, they help users navigate to similar content.

Adding terms from the taxonomy page

To add a new term to a taxonomy list:

  1. Open the taxonomy page.
  2. Enter the term you want to use into the name field.
  3. You can leave the slug field empty – a URL slug will be automatically generated. Or, if you prefer, you can write in your own slug, especially if the term is long, or contains repetition. It would be a good idea to keep the slug shorter.
  4. You can nest terms by selecting a parent term.
  5. You can add a description to ensure users are clear about when to use this tag.

Adding terms from the post editor

You can also add a new term to the list, whilst editing a post:

  1. In the post settings sidebar, scroll down to the taxonomy list.
  2. Click add new topic.
  3. Select parent topic, if necessary.
  4. Click add new topic.
  5. The term will be selected as a tag on your post.
